Fly Fishing in the Maldives – GT, Bonefish, and Triggerfish
Suits those who: Want to experience tropical fly fishing and primarily hunt GT in shallow water.
The Maldives is one of our big favorites for tropical fly fishing. Here, fishing largely involves wading the flats and actively searching for fish.
Giant trevally, bonefish, and various species of triggerfish are some of the species we target. The GT fishing, in particular, makes the trip special. Seeing a fish approach over the shallow water, casting the fly correctly, and then watching it accelerate towards the bait is hard to compare with much else in fly fishing.
During the winter, several of our trips to the Maldives are scheduled, and we offer both Hosted Trips and other arrangements depending on the dates.

Popping and Jigging – for those who want to experience heavy tropical fishing
Suits those who: Want to cast big poppers, jig deep, and never really know what the next bite will be.
For those who prefer spinning over fly fishing, few things beat tropical popping and jigging.
Here, fishing targets giant trevally, dogtooth tuna, and several other strong tropical predatory fish. One moment you're fishing a popper over a reef, the next you're dropping a jig towards structures far beneath the boat.
It's a physical form of fishing where both equipment and angler are put to the test.
Popping
When popping, we fish large surface lures around reefs, edges, and other areas where predatory fish hunt. The bites can be brutal, and often everything happens right before your eyes.
Jigging
Jigging opens up fishing at greater depths and allows access to species that don't always show themselves at the surface. Dogtooth tuna is one of the fish high on the wish list for many of our guests.
Fishing in the Andamans – GT and tropical sea fishing
Suits those who: Are looking for a more specialized fishing adventure with a focus on popping and jigging.
The Andamans have long been a destination for anglers seeking primarily giant trevally and other powerful tropical sea fish.
Here, the focus is on the fishing. Long days at sea, heavy equipment, and large lures are part of the experience.
For many, GT is the main goal, but a large part of the charm of this type of fishing is that you can never be entirely sure what will bite.
This makes the Andamans a good option for the more experienced angler who wants to dedicate a large part of the trip to intense fishing.

Suits those who: Want to combine heavy tropical fishing with a truly unique destination.
Komodo in Indonesia is another option for anglers seeking popping and jigging.
Fishing takes place from a boat around reefs, deep edges, and current-exposed areas. Here you can find GT, dogtooth tuna, and a wide range of other tropical species.
It's also a destination where the journey itself becomes a large part of the experience. The environment around Komodo differs greatly from our Nordic home waters, making the trip much more than just the days out on the boat.

If your main goal is to catch a GT on a fly, we would look closer at the Maldives. If you prefer to cast poppers and fish with heavier gear, the Andamans or Komodo are more natural alternatives.

Why book your fishing trip early?
Many of our long-haul trips are conducted with small groups and a limited number of anglers. This also means that some dates can be fully booked long before departure.
Being early also provides better opportunities to plan flights, extra baggage, fishing equipment, and potential vacation time.
For Hosted Trips, the number of spots is particularly limited as these trips are conducted on fixed dates with a Swedish tour leader.
