We would have loved to come home with even more pictures in the evening sun, where the gin-clear water truly shows off Bosnia's colors at their best. But sometimes things don't quite go as planned. The rain did its best to throw a wrench in our plans, and the camera often had to be wiped dry before it could even be used.

It actually didn't matter much.

When you're holding a large grayling in your net, watching a colorful trout slide back out over the gravel bottom, or landing a rainbow trout that put up a real fight, you quickly forget that your jacket is soaked through and your boots are sloshing a bit more than they should.

Despite the rain, Bosnia delivered exactly what we had hoped for. We fished primarily in Ribnik and Sana, two of the country's most classic fly-fishing rivers. The grayling were just as large and beautiful as rumored, the trout put up fierce fights, and the rainbow trout did everything to test both knots and nerves.

Sure, we would have liked a bit more sun for the camera's sake, but the fish didn't seem to mind the weather at all. In fact, we probably forgot about the rain every time someone shouted "Fish!". At that point, it didn't matter if our jackets weighed a couple of extra kilos or if our waders started to feel more like a bathtub than a pair of trousers.
