Fishing in OMAN

Fishing in Oman is known for brutal strikes and the chance of really big predatory fish. Here you hunt Giant Trevally that can exceed 50 kilos, along with yellowfin tuna, amberjack, and several species that thrive in the strong currents around the Hallaniyyat Islands. The area offers tough fights, clear strikes, and tropical fishing at a level few places can match.

Fishing Season in Oman

The Khareef monsoon means fishing is paused from mid-May to mid-September. Outside this period, conditions are very good, but the seasons differ in character:

October–December

Autumn offers strongly mixed fishing with both popping and jigging, with a lot of activity in the depths. Amberjack, tuna, and large GTs are often caught with jigs when predatory fish hunt near structure.

March–April

Spring is the best time for topwater. Here, popper and stickbait fishing is at its most explosive, and several of the year's largest GTs are caught during these months.

Accommodation at The Lodge in Oman

The lodge in Oman is located in the small fishing village of Hasik, just 500 meters from the sea and amidst the dramatic nature that has made southern Oman a unique fishing destination. Here you can stay comfortably between fishing trips, with a refreshing pool, fresh rooms, and various accommodation options for both smaller groups and solo travelers.

Hasik is a simple yet charming village with a few small shops, local restaurants, and a peaceful everyday life that gives a genuine feeling of Oman. Donkeys often roam through the village, and friendly hyenas are occasionally seen, details that contribute to the place's special atmosphere.

The familiar atmosphere at the lodge and the really good food make many feel at home quickly. Here you get the perfect balance between relaxation and adventure, and the proximity to the coast means you are ready for your next fishing adventure as soon as morning breaks.

Fish species and bait choices in Oman

The waters around Southern Oman offer some of the most powerful predatory fish in the world. Here, Giant Trevally weighing over 50 kilos hunt alongside yellowfin tuna, amberjack, groupers, and queenfish. The bait choice is therefore large and strong gear: large poppers and powerful stickbaits are used to trigger explosive surface strikes, and this is where PE10 rods are truly put to the test. For deeper-dwelling fish, heavy jigs work excellently, especially when amberjack and tuna hunt along the bottom and structures.

The combination of strong currents, varied bottom topography, and enormous fish life makes Oman one of the world's best destinations for both popper and jigging fishing.

Before a fishing trip to Oman

What fish species are found in Oman?

Oman is home to some of the world's most powerful predatory fish. Here, you can catch Giant Trevally, yellowfin tuna, amberjack, groupers, queenfish, and many other species that thrive in the strong currents and nutrient-rich waters around the Hallaniyyat Islands. The combination of surface hunting and deep-sea predators makes Oman one of the most attractive destinations for tropical sport fishing.

When should one go on a fishing trip to Oman?

The best time for sport fishing in Oman is from September to December, as well as during March and April. Autumn often offers very strong jigging fishing with a lot of activity in the depths, while spring is known for explosive topwater fishing where Giant Trevally readily strikes poppers on the surface. The monsoon between mid-May and mid-September puts fishing on hold, but the rest of the year offers stable conditions and a very good chance of catching big fish.

Can I customize my fishing trip

Yes, it's perfectly possible to tailor a fishing trip to Oman. You can adjust the number of fishing days, travel on different dates, or customize the itinerary according to your wishes regarding accommodation, transport, or travel companions. It's also possible to target specific species such as GT, yellowfin tuna, or amberjack, depending on what you want to experience.

Passport and Visa Information

To travel to Oman, you need a valid passport that is in order for the entire duration of your stay. Most European citizens apply for a visa online before departure or obtain an e-visa valid for shorter visits. Visa regulations can change, so it's always a good idea to check current requirements before your trip.

Facts about the country

Oman is located on the Arabian Peninsula and is known for its long coastline, dramatic mountains, and stable society. The country is politically secure, has low crime rates, and offers a warm, welcoming reception to visitors. The capital is Muscat, and the currency is the Omani Rial (OMR). Oman offers a unique blend of unspoiled nature, strong cultural traditions, and some of the richest fishing waters in the region – making the country ideal for sport fishing and nature experiences.

Is there Wi-Fi available?

Yes, there is Wi-Fi at the lodge in Oman. Coverage may vary slightly depending on your location, but it's easy to stay in touch with family and friends or share the day's fishing experiences when you are on land.

How do you fish in Oman?

In Oman, anglers primarily use poppers, stickbaits, and jigs to target powerful predatory fish such as Giant Trevally, Yellowfin Tuna, and Amberjack. Topwater fishing is explosive and takes place along current lines and reefs, while jigging is used in deeper areas where predatory fish hunt along the bottom. The combination of strong currents, varied structure, and abundant marine life makes these techniques both physically demanding and extremely effective.

What are the weather and climate like?

Oman has a warm and dry climate for most of the year, with stable conditions that are perfect for sport fishing. Temperatures are often between 25–32°C during the fishing seasons and evenings are pleasantly mild. Between mid-May and mid-September, the region is affected by the Khareef monsoon, which brings strong winds and rain – therefore, fishing is paused during this period. Outside of the monsoon, the weather is generally warm, sunny, and very fish-friendly.
